Droughts Across the Decades

More than half of the continental United States was in moderate to extreme drought in June — including corn- and soybean-producing states — damaging crops and impacting prices at the grocery store.

Some say if the hot, dry weather continues, this year’s drought could rival the “dust bowl” years of the 1930s.

Militants detonated a truck bomb in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu Tuesday, killing an estimated 70 people at the Ministry of Education.

More than 10 million people are desperately in need of food assistance in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya, the World Food Program estimated this week.
The situation in Somalia in particular is the “worst humanitarian disaster in the world,” the U.N. refugee agency said on Sunday.
