Kate and William Have a Boy! Photos: From Royal Wedding to Royal Birth

By Larisa Epatko

William and Catherine, the duke and duchess of Cambridge, welcomed a baby boy into the world on Monday at 4:24 p.m. London time. Now that the big question is answered, others replace it. What will they name him? What kind of baby buggy will they use? Will being third in line for the crown — after Princes Charles and William — go to his head?

Back in 1982, the world watched as Prince Charles and Princess Diana emerged from St. Mary’s Hospital in London cradling their firstborn son, William Arthur Philip Louis, who was born on June 21 of that year.

Now, 31 years later, William and Catherine had their child at the same hospital in the private Lindo Wing, while international media and royal family fans awaited the news outside. Following tradition, a birth announcement was propped up on an easel at the gates of Buckingham Palace giving more details about the newest crown jewel. And the baby would be welcomed with a royal salute of 41 guns — hopefully, not interrupting a nap.
